Nutrition for ASD

Nutrition for Autism Spectrum Disorders and ADHD

Marina is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist who uses food as medicine to help children on the spectrum thrive. These children not only need proper nutrition, they have a greater need for it than others. Limited food acceptance causes nutrient deficiencies which, paired with other health and lifestyle factors, can be detrimental to the health of a child on the spectrum. Marina aims to optimize your child’s health in order to enhance their overall quality of life.

How nutrition therapy for ASD works: Marina works with the families of children with Autism, Asperger’s, PDD-NOS, ADD, and ADHD to create a unique roadmap towards improved health. Parents are valued as equal partners and ultimately responsible for the case management of their child's treatment. Together, a realistic nutrition care plan will be developed to both fit the child’s lifestyle, yet meet his or her health needs in a safe manner.

Some areas covered include: Dietary intake, weight concerns, gastrointestinal concerns/symptoms, healing the gastrointestinal tract, food allergies, sensitivities, and intolerances, feeding problems, special diets, vitamins, minerals, and other supplements, sleep patterns, environmental concerns, and Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals.

Nutrition Assessments are two hours and are available over the phone, in office, or at home with applicable travel expenses. A detailed look into your child’s growth, lab work, medications, supplements, illnesses, diet, feeding patterns, sleep patterns, allergies, and gastrointestinal symptoms will allow the generation of specific steps your child will benefit from.

Follow-Ups are one hour in length and take place over the phone, one month after the initial assessment to modify recommendations if needed, answer questions, and review recent changes with your child. Additional follow-ups are recommended every 3-6 months for the initial year, and once a year following that to ensure your growing child meets all of his or her needs.

How to begin: Call Marina at Ingredients For Health to choose where and when to schedule the initial assessment. She will provide you with forms to fill out and return before the assessment.

How do I know if this program is right for us?: Contact Marina at Ingredients For Health for a free nutrition screening over the phone. She will determine if nutrition therapy is appropriate at this time for your child.
